A 1-2-3 Victory in a WRC 2 Continues the long Tradition of ŠKODA Motorsport

The drivers of ŠKODA Motorsport factory team, Jan Kopecký, Pontus Tidemand and Kalle Rovanperä, took first three places in WRC 2 class of FIA World Rally Championship in 2018 (subject to official publication by FIA). This makes this year’s season the most successful in the long and storied racing history of the brand.

Since 2015, ŠKODA FABIA R5 dominates the WRC, winning the FIA WRC 2 Championship for Teams four times in a row, FIA WRC 2 Chamionship for Drivers three times in a row and four titles in Czech Rally Championships. Beside the factory team, the car claimed many successes through its customer programme – more than 240 examples were sold in 32 countries. Among them, the FABIA R5s entered rallies 3,616 times in 60 countries and collected 598 wins and 787 finishes. It claimed national titles in a dozen countries around the world and in four continental series (CODASUR in South America, African Rally Championship, Asia-Pacific Rally Championship and European Rally Championship Junior U28).

This makes ŠKODA FABIA R5 the most successful car in the R5 category, which is the second fastest class in rallying and the one used in WRC 2. It is the latest in a long line of ŠKODA racing cars, which started with the first car produced by company, VOITTURETTE A, and continued with legends like OCTAVIA TOURING SPORT, 130 RS, 130 LR or OCTAVIA WRC. Over the decades on rally tracks, ŠKODA Motorsport collected many successes in famous rallies including Rallye Monte Carlo or The Rally of the 1,000 Lakes in Finland.
